Krav Story

Tonight, at Krav, we played hot potato with a 25 lbs medicine ball. If you dropped it or missed, you had to do push ups.

I had to do push ups twice. I would argue that only one of them counts however. We were in squares of four people and there was a guy who looked like Mr. Clean across from me diagonally. When he threw the ball to me across the diagonal, I didn't really drop it. It was more like I fell over backwards with it.

Tonight we did sparring. This was the first time in a 2nd level sparring class that I managed to hold my own against all the mens. Usually I end up dodging and blocking like mad in a desperate attempt to get hit less. But tonight, not only did I throw attacks, I managed to get hits in.

Yeah me!

Monday AMV

Our month of hotties comes to a close with that one guy who has the impossible Welsh name so we'll just call him Horatio Hornblower.

And in exciting reality tv news, (even though I'm a bit late) Tatiyana got the boot on American Idol. YEAH!!!!

And on Amazing Race, the racers had a challenge in Austria where they threw pies at each other's faces. It was awesome.

Krav Maga

I sort of slept through Krav fit this morning, so I just ended up doing one class. I know Nan wanted to see a video, but I don't know how my instructors would feel about that.

I found some videos on youtube that show what we do though, so enjoy!

And these guys are going through the self defense moves:

Friday Bummer

I was supposed to be at a hockey game tonight, but through a comedy of errors and the inconceivable thought that the Caps game would be sold out (How is that even possible? Every time I've been to a Caps game they're lucky to fill half the stadium) I basically went into DC and paid parking fees and all that nonsense to eat a sub sandwich.

Sigh. Since there's nothing out that I want to see, I'm at home perusing the internet. Let's look at something that will be fun to see.

Let's hope that this one features more Transformers and less Shia LeBoeuf.

Restaurant Week: Taberna del alabardero

Its restaurant week again!

Last night we went to Taberna del Alabardero, a Spanish restaurant in DC.

I started with spinach mushrooms crepes, which were really good, then went with semi-boneless quail and green beans.

I went with quail because I don't have it very often, and because I am up to the challenge of eating tiny birds with tiny bones using only a knife and fork and trying no to embarrass myself in a very nice restaurant by accidentally flinging little bird bits across the room.

For dessert I chose the house flan, with came with almond creme and a little raspberry sauce. It was amazing. I also got to try a bit of the desserts from my friends. One had gotten goat cheese and apple mousse, I just wanted to try the mousse, it was different, but good.

BSA and DFL went with the bread, olive oil, chocolate, and salt dessert because how could you not? First you take the bread, which was soaked in olive oil, dipped it in the chocolate, a rich sort of mousse/pudding thing, and then added a bit of salted vanilla ice cream.

It sounds weird, but it was good. Lots of different flavors that managed to blend together quite nicely.

Monday Manly Clips

Not exactly an AMV, but they're cute and fun, it's the boys from Supernatural.

Also, Amazing Race has started again. Not only is it Tatiyana free, but it features a team of little people stuntmen. In the first episode they bungee jump off an enormous dam in Switzerland.

YEAH!!!!!!!

UPDATE: That cheese challenge was freaking hilarious. I feel bad for the old lady from Virginia though.

American Idol

NNNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AAHH!! I hate hate HATE Tatiyana. Whatever her name is, the super annoying beauty queen. Her voice gives me shingles! Now we'll all be at the mercy of the "Vote for the Worst" people.

I realize I'm a little late on these, but I'm finally watching the finalist episodes.

Krav Story

Work has been insane, but I did make it to Krav on Tuesday. We learned a wicked cool wrist lock that's really hard to do. But my instructor, who is awesome, is really good at wrist locks.

If you do the lock right, it becomes a take down, but like I said, it's tricky. My partner was trying it and I was easily resisting (and I am not hard to take down) so the instructor came over and said, "No do it like this" he showed us the correct hand placement, then flexed some muscles and next thing I knew I was on the ground and making a weird noise that sounded like "AAHH-EEP"

He didn't hurt me, but it was uncomfortable not to mention surprising.

Monday AMV

Continuing in our month long theme of Hot Men doing Manly Things I present:

The Wolverine!

Also, the song in this video is hilarious.

I'm coming for all of you!

I love Battlestar Galactica, and I love President Rosslyn. Especially when she's angry.

She's got a basestar and she's not afraid to use it.

You'll all be happy to note that while playing BSG: The board game, I managed to get the humans safely to Kobol during my term as President Rossyln. It's not easy. In the first game (I was Helo) we got wiped out by the Cylons.

Frakkin' Cylons!

Stuff and Thingies

I just got back from seeing Coraline, and as a stop motion movie, it's a work of art. I'll give it mad props for the work that went into it. As a story, it was one of the creepiest things I've ever seen. That kind of things that will haunt your nightmares, and evil will forever bear the shrill nasal qualities of Teri Hatcher.

Brrrrr.

Children to the left of me, "Mommy this movie is scary."

Children to the right of me, "I don't want to watch this anymore!"

And I was leaving the theater I overheard a guy tell his girlfriend that the kid next to him was in tears.

So this might be a good one to skip taking your little ones to.

Also, how on earth did they get a PG rating when there's an entire scene featuring an old lady with enormous breasts wearing nothing but a thong and pasties?!

Again I say, Brrrr!!!

On to something not quite so scaring, last night I went with BSA to the Kennedy Center to see the Alvin Ailey Dance Company perform their 50th anniversary concert special. Or something like that.

Little did we know that President Obama would also be in attendance. This meant that not only was every cop in DC stationed around the Kennedy center, but that I also had to go through security. I did not dress for security. I had metal on my shirt, belt, and shoes. So I had to get wanded.

Now I can say that I've been in the same room as the President though. Never actually saw him, since I was in the balcony, and he was seated below us, but I did see loads of crazy people crowding the railing in an attempt to see him, despite the stern looks of one lone secret service agent. It got to the point where I feared I'd see someone go overboard, but the ushers finally came and broke it up.

The dancing was beautiful. They started with a short video talking about Alvin Ailey, how he built his school, and what they're doing now. Then they danced, all kinds of styles to all kinds of music. My favorites in the first third was a solo by a woman in a beautiful white dress, who danced to a musical version of the Lord's prayer, and a dance where all the dancers were supposed to be water.

There were two exceptionally long intermissions, and the final act was a performance of "Revelations" a dance that Alvin Ailey choreographed in the 60s. It was all set to gospel music and it was amazing.

I loved it.

Batman Funny

It's good to see Batman wind down now and again. It's also good to know that he's as good at video games as I am.

Corbeau's Diet

Tiff wanted to know what my diet is. Unfortunately, I lack the discipline to stick to a diet, but this is basically what I eat on a normal day.

5:40 - breakfast

I don't like to eat early in the morning, so I usually just have toast or cream of wheat with fruit juice. (I hate drinking water in the morning) If I'm having a bad day I get donut and hot chocolate at Starbucks, and if its a really bad day I hit up a McDonald's on the way to work.

I have a snack between 9 and 10, I love those little 100 calorie pack stuff. The little cinnamon streusal coffecakes are awesome! I also have hershey kisses at work.
I'll take my lunch, either a sandwich with chips and a ho ho, or take a lean cuisine. I like the pizzas or the paninis.

A lot of times we eat out, but if I go out to eat, then I don't have dinner. I just have a snack when I get home and then a bowl of cereal. Especially if I have Krav, because I don't want to throw it up.

My favorite snack is to cut up peppers, and then dip them in roast garlic humus. Its also really good with cucumber slices, but they go bad fast, and nothing says nasty like squishy cucumber.

When we eat dinner, I usually eat out, or frozen vegetables, pizza, or I really like the Stouffer's lasagnas.

So that's about it. I eat out a lot, and I love sugar, and I can't resist the sweet siren call of Dr Pepper.

Monday AMV-A little late

February Hot Mens edition brings you Jack Bauer.

He's here to chew bubblegum and kick ass, and he's all out of bubblegum.

PERIMETER!

Monday

It's that time of year again, Single Awareness Day approacheth. In honor of all the pink sugary goo going on, I tried some new colors on the blog, and of course, this is the month of Hot Men AMVs.

Unfortunately I stayed up watching the Super Bowl and am running a little behind. Rest assured I'll have an AMV up tomorrow though.
