Hair cut, slightly more than two bits

Yesterday I went to get a hair cut, and either they double booked my guy or the lady before me was taking a looonnng time, but there were two of us waiting for hair cuts at the same time.

So instead of making me wait around, they gave me. . . wait for it. . . The Super Special Awesome Conditioner!! DUN Dun dun....

Only I didn't know it at the time. So there I was, enjoying the shampoo, which is really the best part of any hair cut, and then the girl brings out this long, feathery rope looking thing.

She looped it around my head twice, careful not to disturb the little soft serve ice cream shape she'd sculpted my hair into, and then placed a shower cap over it. She was very careful that the elastic from the cap came down on the feathery headband, so I wouldn't have to suffer the horrors of "ring around the forehead"

That's why I love salons. I like knowing that there's a place in this world that will protect you from all the horrors of life as represented by the elastic band of a shower cap.

It was a ridiculous bit of pampering, but I loved it.

THEN I had to sit under the the domed heat thingy. The thingy you always see in movies, and old ladies are sitting under it with their hair wrapped in enormous pink curlers.

You know that THINGY.

The girl set this enormous timer for ten minutes, and told me in dire tones not to move until the time was up. Her tone implied that if I moved early, something just awful would happen.

Perhaps the shower cap was more evil than I was giving it credit for. Either way, I was happy to while away ten minutes in a comfortable chair while my head was gently heated. Unfortunately the only thing to read was celebrity gossip magazines.

Things I learned from my time in the comfy chair:

1. Britney Spears has a parenting coach

2. Lindsay Lohan has a girlfriend

3. Some actress out there as really ugly boots. I don't remember her name, but the boots looked like they were made from ewok pelts.

Nothing else made it past short term memory.

After I got my hair cut, I tried to figure out just what it was that the super special awesome conditioner did, besides keep me occupied for about 20 minutes. After my hair was fully dried, I had all these really fine wispy hairs, rising like a halo from my scalp.

Truly, they conditioned my head fuzz. Which being on my head, is far longer and thicker than head fuzz has any right to be. A little hair product should take care of that though.

And after trying to recreate the cute do my guy came up with, I'm convinced that he's the only person in the world who can get all of my hair to curl in the same direction at the same time.

Must be the conditioner.

More Movie Awesomeness

The Half-Blood Prince already?

Ooh, they did a good job of making little Voldemort creepy.

Monday Neat-O!

Guess what's coming to the movies!

I love that it looks just like the comic book, even down to Nite Owl's stupid looking owl-mobile.

Rorschach is still my favorite, and his brief appearance in the trailer confirms that he's suitably crazy.

Tired Eyes

In my training at work, I've finally started learning how to analyze the samples. This means spending a lot of time looking through a magnifier. They're like a magnifying glass lens placed in a stand so you don't have to hold it.

My already trained co-workers spend a lot of time hunched over a magnifier. It's quite a strain on your eyes, neck and back, and it's not unusual for people to call in sick with migraines.

So as they're training us, they're giving us tips on how to ease the strain. One way is to keep both eyes open while looking through the magnifier. You'd be surprised how much energy it takes to keep one eye shut for a couple of hours. So you look through the magnifier with one eye, and just let the other one hang out a bit. However, focusing with just one eye takes some getting used to.

It was okay when I was using my right eye. It's my dominant eye. I'd be analyzing something on the left of the lens, and my left eye would be like "Left! Hey that's me!" and the right eye would be like "Push off, I'm looking right now!" and that was that. No problems and the left eye would just sort of space off.

However, in order to relieve eye strain and prevent headaches, they recommend you switch eyes between each sample.

Working with my left eye is a bit harder, because the right eye tries to take over, and then things keep blurring in and out of focus (half of them at 4X magnification, the other half not) while my eyes fight over what I'm actually supposed to be looking at and then I get a bit car sick and have to stop.

I've been practicing with the magnifier off and on all week, but today I actually used it for two and half hours and now have the strangest complaint I've ever experienced.

My eyeballs are tired.

So tired, that even though I've been looking forward to seeing Mama Mia all week, my eyeballs were like "Man, watching that seems like a lot of work. We don't think we're up to it."

And my neck muscles were all "We concur. We're not up for anything that doesn't involve a heat wrap and soft, cushiony support."

and then my back chimed in with, "Whatever. I've been complaining since Monday night's Krav class. But does anyone listen to me? NOoooooo."

and my abs were all, "We'll do anything you want! Just please no more crunches!!"

and my stomach was like, "Mmmmmmm, brownies"

and then my abs were like, "No you fool!! That leads to crunches!!!"

Okay, I'm done now.

Sorry, I'm a little short on sleep this week, and it's made me a little giddy.

Not to mention the hours of staring at tiny tiny tiny things.

Tuesday AMV

Just one day late!

It's from the anime Mei Hime, which I enjoyed, despite its rampant fan service.

Monday AMV-Postponed

Sorry about this. I just got home and haven't had a chance to peruse the youtube yet.

I did make it to Krav Maga today though, and found out that when I'm concentrating on learning something new, I look "really mad."

That was probably because I got kicked twice.

The second time was from a large guy, who barely missed my face with his roundhouse. After he was chastised by the instructor, and I had stood up again (As a ninja, I follow a strict "walk it off" policy) and I assured him that I was all right. He picked me up in a big, giant, sweaty-man bear hug.

So that was my Monday.

Overtime followed by a sweaty-man bear hug.

I know you're all jealous.

Bor-a-blog

I know the blog's been slow lately. We got slammed at work, and I can't decide which would be more exciting to blog about, the filing or the data entry.

So here's a clip from one of my new favorite shows, Wipeout!

Because nothing beats watching people fall off stuff into mud.

Good Food Tuesday

I know I know. I am totally behind on these. This is why I have a random blog instead of a thematic blog.

I lack blog discipline.

Today's recipe comes from page 7 of the appetizer section.

Artichoke Dip

1 (13 oz) can artichoke hearts (chopped)- Don't drain
2 c. mayonnaise
(This is kind of a lot, I actually ran out and had to use a cup of BSA's super nasty light mayo, which resembles strange smelling yogurt. It didn't affect the taste though, and was probably healthier, if you feel like going that route.)
4 oz Parmesan cheese
(I also ran out of this and had to substitute some mozzarella. When you check your fridge for ingredients, you should probably open those cans and see how much is actually inside.)
1 sm can diced green chilies

Mix all ingredients together. Place in a flat baking pan. (I used a 8X8) Bake at 350 for 20 minutes. Serve with tortilla chips.

This dip was actually really good. I love the artichoke chili combination.

Good Luck

Just for the TA. And you thought that you were having a bad day. Good Luck on your exam!

Monday AMV

Did everyone have a good fourth? Mine was awesome. I even managed to battle off most of the evil mutant Occoquon mosquitoes, so I only have 5 or 6 massive itchy hives/bites.

I have a big test coming up soon. Let's hope it goes better than this guys.

Also, I think BSA is picking up some of my ninja tricks. How else could she have squirreled away an entire freaking ironing board?

Boo-Yah

I can't wait to see this movie.

Last week I saw Hancock, which was pretty good. A Will Smith comedy wrapped around a surprisingly tragic love story. I was thoroughly entertained. It has quite a bit of swearing though, for those of you with urchins.

I also saw Wall-e, which I loved. Only Pixar could make a cockroach look cute. Although it wasn't working for the guy behind me, who would "Eww" everytime the bug came on screen.

It's a pretty dark view of humanity's future, but it still comes off as a hopeful movie. There's hardly any dialogue, but with his huge expressive eyes, Wall-e doesn't really need a lot of dialogue.

My favorite? Mo and the crazy robot brigade.
